I concur with WD about the bike and the suggestion to rent a hoist. If time is a problem (in terms of renting a hoist) he can hold the engine in place by taking a couple of 2x4s and nailing them together (flat sides, creating a 4x4) and then laying them cross-wise across the hood opening (on end, not on the flat side- they will bend less that way). Then loop a chain though the engine block lifting eyes and over the wood. By using a floor jack, he can reposition the engine and get it in place for bolting to the mounts. Each time you adjust the position, you take a loop out (or put a loop into) the chain (you can use a bolt and nut if the chain doesn't have a hook). You can also use more than 1 "4x4" and chain if the engine is really heavy.
I used this method to support my V-6 Berretta engine when I had to replace the clutch, so it'll definitely support a rice burner 4-banger.
You still have the problem if initially lifting the engine into the car, or onto a jack, but it cuts down on hoist rental time if he's doing the work over a couple days.
